Vesicular Monoamine Transporter 2 (VMAT2) inhibitors represent a significant breakthrough in the treatment of movement disorders, specifically tardive dyskinesia and chorea associated with Huntington’s disease. These conditions are characterized by involuntary, repetitive body movements that can be both physically exhausting and socially debilitating. The mechanism of a VMAT2 inhibitor involves blocking the protein that loads neurotransmitters like dopamine into synaptic vesicles.
